Darrin “Kareem” Nelson
In honor of Kareem
by Demetrice “DC” Crite
There are times when we don’t seem to know the reasons why.
So much is unexplained that our heads spin, our hearts ache, and the tears we cry seem uncontrollable. We cry for those we knew well and for those we weren’t so acquainted with. We do this because we share the same plight and our brotherhood and sisterhood extends beyond prison walls. We mourn because we don’t want to leave it to chance that someone else will take on the responsibility of giving you the opportunity to be honored in a loving and dignified manner. We are prisoners, ex-prisoners, and those who advocate for prisoners. We mourn our losses.
