
Our Team
Mourning Our Losses is organized by a dedicated volunteer group of educators, students, artists, and advocates, many of whom are currently or formerly incarcerated.

Adamu Chan is a filmmaker, writer, and community organizer from the Bay Area who was incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison.

Andrew Kornfeld (he/him) is an abolitionist, writer, and student at Yale University.

Anthony Ehlers is an activist for prisoners rights, an artist, a poet, and a Northwestern student earning his BA. James Scott was Anthony's beloved friend and cellmate.


Chanthon Bun is formerly incarcerated, now working with Advancing Justice, Asian Law Caucus, and Asian Prisoner Support Committee as Yuri Kochiyama Fellow.

Demetrice "DC" Crite is a student in Northwestern's Prison Education Program (NPEP). He writes in order to promote change, show change, and to help himself and other "caged" birds, like him, to be heard and understood when we sing out from behind prison walls.

As an advocate for change inside these walls, Deidre Pierre vows to work hard, while diligently seeking educational opportunities to help women from all walks of life for the betterment of all.
Eliza Kravitz is an advocate, organizer, and student at Yale University.

Luci Harrell is a researcher, law student, co-founder of MOL, 2022 Soros Justice Fellow and Founder of the Atlanta Community Support Project whose work focuses on the intersection of poverty and incarceration.

Frances Keohane is an abolitionist, advocate, and writer, currently at PEN America and soon to be a student at Yale University.

Hank Warner currently lives in Southern California with his son & daughter. His brother’s passing brought a spotlight to issues where he felt he could help make a difference: helping family members of the incarcerated manage their difficult circumstances, advocating for lesser sentencing to end overcrowded prisons, and helping society understand and accept rehabilitated formerly incarcerated individuals.

Joanne DeCaro is a doctoral candidate in the department of Criminology, Law and Society at UCI. She researches trauma and incarceration, and long-term incarceration.

"JW " Jimmie is a father, grandfather, artist, writer, incarcerated for two decades, seeking transparency, public awareness of actual numbers of deaths in jails and prisons, humanitarian reform of people incarcerated, medical, verbal, education, food, jobs, pay, sentencing, parole, compassionate release, geriatric release, etc.

Kelsey Kauffman has worked in and studied prisons for more than 50 years.
Kirsten Pickering is a co-founder of Mourning Our Losses, and leads the Research & Tracking team, which keeps a record of people who have passed away behind bars during the pandemic.

Michelle Daniel (Jones): Artist, Activist, Advocate and Scholar.

Page Dukes is a native ATLien. She was released from prison in May 2017. She is a founding member of the Athens Reentry Collaborative, Mourning Our Losses, and Georgia Freedom Letters, and a comms associate at the Southern Center for Human rights.

Rachael Zafer (she/her) is an abolitionist, social change consultant, educator, and writer based in southern Colorado.

Sarah C. is an undergraduate student in Positive Human Development and Social Change through Life University. Her passion is advocacy for domestic violence awareness and having her voice heard is very important to her.
