Donald Rigney Jr.
Donald William Rigney Jr. died of COVID-19 on Friday, September 25, 2020. Affectionately known as Donny by his friends and family, he was the beloved son of Donald Rigney Sr. and Anne Quimby Moody. Donny was born on December 21, 1962 in Las Cruces, New Mexico and was 57 years old when he passed.
Donny spent his life in the service of others. A former United States Navy officer, Donny served on the board of directors for his local chapter of the American Legion Veterans’ Association. For 17 years after his Navy career, he worked as a systems engineer for Allied Technology Group in Little Rock, Arkansas, supporting the Coast Guard in their missions. At the time of his passing, he was employed by the Arkansas Department of Corrections as an education and technology programs manager for Riverside Vocational Technical School at the Ouachita River Unit.
Donny’s aunt, Lynn Rigney Richardson, recalled that some of his earlier acts of service had a humorous effect. "He entertained everyone by doing a somersault at [the] rehearsal dinner [for my wedding]," she wrote in his obituary guestbook. Yet Donny also knew how to channel his serious side and care deeply for the concerns of others. According to Heather Wallace, a former coworker, "[Donny] was a great listener and gave me much needed advice and support in difficult times."
Donny is survived by his wife Marsha, his parents Donald and Anne, and numerous children, stepchildren, and grandchildren. Many other friends, family members, and acquaintances mourn the loss of Donny and will remember him with fondness for years to come.
