He has more than a father. He was a dad, and while not perfect, Henry Camacho's daughter believed in his change. As a human being we make mistakes, but Henry's daughter says, "he changed and learned from his mistakes.” Henry possessed a fighting and hopeful spirit, and if he had the proper care and treatment Chrystal would still be able to talk to her best friend everyday.
Henry gave the greatest gift you can give to a person to his daughter, Chrystal. He gave her his love, time, and attention. Though incarcerated, his life was still meaningful and purposeful and it should not have been discarded without the proper care. Chrystal is determined to get the answers she needs surrounding the final moments of her dad's death and to prevent other families from experiencing this injustice as it pertains to incarcerated loved ones.
Henry Camacho died on May 16th, 2020 at Sumter Correctional Institution. He was the 10th incarcerated person to die of coronavirus in the Florida prison system and, at age 55, the youngest. He died after being returned to his dorm following two weeks on a ventilator.
