Jose Reynoso
Jose Reynoso, a man who dearly loved his family and his job, left this world on June 1st. A passionate educator, Jose loved making connections with people from all backgrounds. He was a respected and beloved member of his community who will be remembered for his passion for teaching and learning.
Jose began his career in the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) Rehabilitation and Reentry Department as a Correctional Education Program Supervisor on August 13th, 2018. He remained in his position at ASPC-Yuma until his passing.
Due to tight quarters and poor healthcare, Yuma correctional facility has been ravaged by the coronavirus. The ADC has not been providing proper personal protective equipment and correctional officers still must pay for COVID tests out of their own pockets. In-person education and other classes have continued. Jose’s death was preventable, yet the ADC continues to stand by and refuse to handle the coronavirus outbreak the right way.
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Jose Reynoso, beloved community leader, friend, father, and grandfather.
This memorial was written by MOL team member Claire Chang with information from reporting by Jimmy Jenkins and Lauren Gilger of KJZZ Phoenix, David Biscobing of ABC15 Arizona, and a press release by the Arizona Department of Corrections.
