Maurice Talley

In Memory of a Good Man, Maurice Talley
By Stan Rosenthal

With great sadness I write this tribute for a good man who proudly served our country, was well liked by everyone and a valued member of the Jewish and Veteran's communities to name a couple.

I first met Maurice 34 years ago when I first entered the state system. He held trustee status and daily worked outside the prison walls. Maurice would participate in every Jewish Shabbat service and attend all High Holy Day observances. You couldn't help but like Maurice's good nature, positive outlook, and kindness. When first meeting Maurice, he immediately offered any assistance I may need in order for me to experience a smooth adjustment in this abnormal and unhealthy environment. I will be forever grateful for his kindness, concern and thoughtfulness throughout our 34 year friendship.

I witnessed Maurice's participation in all Veterans affairs. He proudly showed photos of his Viet Nam service years and devoted many hours to the Veteran's organization. In spite of his overincarceration, as having served over 50 years, he loved the U.S.A. while he struggled to be set free. Maurice never displayed any anger but only care and concern for those he came in contact with. Selfless and dedicated are two of many fitting words at start to describe Maurice.

The tiny Jewish community became greatly smaller in numbers but more importantly in stature. A person with Maurice's wisdom, life experience, participation, mentoring and calm in the face of adversity will not return I'm my lifetime.

We wish his family solace by relishing the many fond memories of a life well led.

May Maurice's life and memory be a blessing.
